A WONDERFUL REFERENCE:
By Livia Rose
THOUGH ONLY A 66 PAGE BOOK, IT IS VERY DENSE WITH INFORMATION. THIS TIME PERIOD (1825-1840) HAD MANY SLEEVE TYPES. 64 COLOR AND BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOS, WITH DETAILED EXPLANATIONS. THIS IS A VERY GOOD REFERENCE ON SLEEVES. THE TEXT COVERS WOMEN'S AND MEN'S CLOTHES, WOMEN'S UNDERWEAR, CHILDREN'S CLOTHES; ALONG WITH HEADWEAR, SHOE'S, STOCKINGS, GARTERS, GLOVES, MITTENS, BAGS AND RETICULES, PURSES, FANS, UMBRELLAS AND PARASOLS, AND MEN'S ACCESSORIES. I LOVE THIS BOOK.

The 72 Sigils of Power: Magic, Insight, Wisdom and Change, by Zanna Blaise

When you look at these glorious, mystical Sigils in a specific state of mind, magic happens. The magic happens within you and is reflected in your world. This book contains two types of magic. Contemplation Magic can give you great insight and wisdom, and will help you develop abilities and create new aspects of your personality. Results Magic can be used to make changes in the world around you. This is the simplest form of magic known, but it works. Each Sigil of Power contains one of The 72 Names of God. These are mighty three-letter words, written in Hebrew. These sacred names are a trigger for real magic. There is one small problem – there’s lots of misinformation out there when it comes to the 72 Names. Although there are some first-rate books, and even a few useful websites, there’s a lot of poorly researched material that will lead you away from the magic. Often the names are incorrectly listed, badly drawn or their secrets are concealed. Here, the 72 Names of God are presented as visual Sigils, complete with the secret Words of Power that activate them. There are detailed instructions for working on inner change and outer magic. More than 300 individual powers are explored in this book. The Names are written as clearly and beautifully as possible, bound by a solid circle to enhance your focus. Each letter was handcrafted, based on traditional techniques and the visual requirements of modern readers. The Names in this book are the most accurate and accessible that you can find. You will discover how to: Use the names to access angelic power. Work with Contemplation Magic to gain insight and wisdom. Use Results Magic to change yourself and your world. Attract the things, people and events that will make you happy. Banish pain, loneliness, sadness and regret. Develop new character traits. Discover your true will and inner needs. When you work with these Sigils of Power you will gain a stronger connection to yourself, and the better you know yourself the easier it is for all your desires to manifest. That is the real power of Divine Magic.

An intense guide to the Names. Buy it, use it, change.
By Midwest Man
Before I launch into my review, let me say words that describe this book: PRACTICAL, DESCRIPTIVE, SUCCESS, it WORKS, a FEW MINUTES, POWER, EXPERIENCE, and I have already found Good Things from reading it.

I was not sure how to title this review. Why?

I was going to say, "An intense Primer". Occasionally a book will cause me to reflect upon my first year of "what is magick?" trials, insecurity, and variable-strength results. This book gives a lot of PRACTICAL strategies to deep questions I wish I had 5 years ago. But it isn't written like a Primer. "Old hands" to magick will find it useful.

I was going to say, "An intense manual for the Names". It does give a lot of easy-to-find information, in a clear, straightforward way that stays on point and is DESCRIPTIVE, yet embraces brevity. But it's not dry, and Zanna writes personably.

I bought it because I have had much SUCCESS using the materials presented by Damon Brand, who knows this author and interviewed her for readers on his website. They are members of The Gallery of Magick, a group of people who only bother with magick that WORKS, and that write good, clear, usable stuff.

Blaise educates the reader in the viewpoint of Contemplative Magick as a subset of Results Magick, and likens them to squares and rectangles, respectively. The old Geometry adage, "All squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares" came to mind quickly. You get results with Contemplative Magick, but you do not use the trappings and long rituals more commonly found in Results-based grimoires.

The Magick presented here can be done in a FEW MINUTES. Or people can stretch it out. Blaise stressed that since Contemplative Magick is personal and internal-based, there is no "Ritual 1.0". She does give detailed examples for each type, Contemplative and Results, and summarizes each set of steps.

I FOUND:
1) though she also cites trials and investigations by The Gallery, that her listed powers for each Name do not always match those by Damon. Why should they? If it works, it WORKS.
2) excellent renderings of the Hebrew alef-beis for each Name's sigil.
3) some things I needed to know, for me. You will find things for you, I believe, that you would want to stay in your journal and not in a review online.
4) MOST IMPORTANTLY: the sigils have POWER. I found myself staring at the characters of one Name with which I have become familiar since January, and didn't immediately realize what it stood for. This was an important test I didn't realize I was conducting until I had that EXPERIENCE.

I was going to wait to write a review until I had multiple results like I have for other books, but I want people to know now that I have already found Good Things from reading it and trying it out.

To sum up: PRACTICAL, DESCRIPTIVE, SUCCESS, it WORKS, a FEW MINUTES, POWER, EXPERIENCE, and I have already found Good Things from reading it.

Don't let the seeming simplicity of this book fool you. It is truly powerful
By Boots
I stumbled across Damon Brand's books and The Gallery of Magick by accident a week or so ago, just before this book was released and the timing couldn't have been more perfect.

This little book seems so simple its almost too good to be true and it would be easy to dismiss it. But this is one of the most potent things I think I've ever read. It literally saved my life.

I have followed the author's advice and let the sigils take me on my own personal journey of exploration and as such I've strayed from some of recommendations around pacing myself. I have instead followed an intuitive path of insights leading me from one name to another and sometimes back around again to the starting point.

I know this book has just been released but already it's changed my internal perspective in very tangible ways. I am so grateful to the author I can't thank her enough.

I wasn't a believer in magick before but I am now!

Outstanding. Works fast if you actually use it.
By Rosie Hirst
This is a very beautiful and very powerful little book. I'm relatively new at working with the Gallery of Magick materials, and feel remarkably blessed in stumbling upon them. The diagrams are so beautiful I may have some enlarged as works of art. The writing is kind, direct, personable, elegant and powerful. Most importantly, they work. I used one at the red lights driving to a worksite, a trip that takes about 10 minutes. So I reckon I was doing the actual 'magick' about 2-3 minutes max. Potentially volatile situation sorted before I arrived. I sat in a meeting reading a short email that resolved it in wonder.
That was the third thing I used it for. The first two resolved very quickly as well. While doing the work, I can feel the energy around the situation involved shifting, then clearly when it has shifted.
For the few dollars Ms Blaise is asking , this work is a total steal which I will use for many years to come. Though I enjoy the kindle book, I may have to invest in the print one too. Reading the book is enlightening; if you actually use it, you will be rewarded. Highly recommended.

One of the more comprehensive sources on humic substances.
By jacepugh@aol.com
Stevenson's _Humus Chemistry_ is THE source on soil organic matter (SOM), namely humic substances. It played an instrumental role as a reference in support of my masters thesis. I would recommend the book highly to anyone taking a course and/or with a serious interest in any aspect of SOM.

which I found to be tedious, if not boring
By Aristotle Dipteron
HUMUS CHEMISTRY arrived very soon after I ordered it. HUMUS CHEMISTRY ihas much information about the chemistry and nature of humus. Much of the book, however, is devoted to materials and methods. Since Stevenson, the author, is an active researcher, I can understand HUMUS CHEMISTRY's having so much background about materials and methods. The materials and methods also helps to explain the often contradictory results obtained by various researchers. Because so much time is devoted to materials and methods, which I found to be tedious, if not boring. This is not a book for someone who wants to learn about HUMUS, per se.

The Masked City (The Invisible Library Novel), by Genevieve Cogman

Librarian-spy Irene and her apprentice Kai are back in the second in this “dazzling”* book-filled fantasy series from the author of The Invisible Library.

The written word is mightier than the sword—most of the time...

Working in an alternate version of Victorian London, Librarian-spy Irene has settled into a routine, collecting important fiction for the mysterious Library and blending in nicely with the local culture. But when her apprentice, Kai—a dragon of royal descent—is kidnapped by the Fae, her carefully crafted undercover operation begins to crumble.

Kai’s abduction could incite a conflict between the forces of chaos and order that would devastate all worlds and all dimensions. To keep humanity from getting caught in the crossfire, Irene will have to team up with a local Fae leader to travel deep into a version of Venice filled with dark magic, strange coincidences, and a perpetual celebration of Carnival—and save her friend before he becomes the first casualty of a catastrophic war.

But navigating the tumultuous landscape of Fae politics will take more than Irene’s book-smarts and fast-talking—to ward off Armageddon, she might have to sacrifice everything she holds dear....

I read it in one night, it was that good
By R. Holt
After reading The Invisible Library I was very eager to read the next book in the series, The Masked City. I stayed up all night reading it in one go. If Genevieve Cogman continues her career as a novelist I think she stands a good chance of becoming one of my favorite authors. She doesn’t have Neil Gaiman’s skill for lyrical prose, but her use of language is quite excellent to the degree that I’ve started associating her in my mind with him as People Who Write Well.

I absolutely love the world that she has created. Even though it draws on familar fables, fairy tales, and folklore I feel like her take is fresh and interesting. It’s also well incorporated so that it makes a sort of logical sense. The first book was stunning but I liked how this book went more into the power of story telling. In Cogman’s universe there are two opposing forces, the chaotic Fae and the ordered Dragons. In The Masked City she explores how the very nature of the Fae forces the world around them to follow the story that a fae is acting out. The more powerful the fae and the more they commit to their true self, an archetype of the story, the more strongly they affect reality. Dragons have the opposite affect, reducing the influence of imagination and forcing things into their true nature. The library outside of reality sits in between the two as a neutral party, balancing the forces of chaos and order in the multiverse worlds of Earth by acquiring unique works of literature from each.

Minor spoilers from the first book to follow!

In this second book, Irene the Librarian and her apprentice Kai , who happens to be a Dragon, have been given a permanent station in the London from the first book which is heavily infested with Fae influences. When her apprentice is abducted she must team up with a local Fae and a human detective of that local world to find him and bring him home before it can spark all out war between the Fae and Dragons, with countless human lives and worlds as collateral damage. With the help of a Fae she neither likes nor trusts, she must travel deeper in to Chaos than perhaps any librarian has gone before to an idealized Venice under the control of seriously powerful Fae and rescue her apprentice.

I love the world so much for the importance it places on language and stories. I geek out on it on multiple levels. I'm already anticipating the January release of The Burning Page and was happy to read that there is at least a 4th and 5th book planned in the series.

Action-packed!
By Kate
**Review courtesy of All Things Urban Fantasy**

THE MASKED CITY is an excellent follow-up to THE INVISIBLE LIBRARY, if a bit different. Whereas I would have described THE INVISIBLE LIBRARY as a mystery, THE MASKED CITY skips the mystery part and goes straight into spy thriller-esque action.

Almost immediately, Irene figures out who's behind Kai's abduction and manages to rally the forces, as it were, to rescue him. She knows where he is, and she has a way of getting to that place. After that, THE MASKED CITY introduces us to a new world in the Invisible Library universe, and leaves us holding our breath and hoping Irene doesn't run into any danger in her quest. But what fun would a book be without a little danger?

Obviously, one knows the protagonists are going to come out ahead in the end. How much ahead is the question. In THE MASKED CITY I genuinely feared for Irene - I wondered what the outcome would be. There were several ways her plan could diverge and the options offered the tense, sitting on the edge of my seat type reading experience. Irene continues to be a strong lead, flawed, but still loyal to her friends and to the library, despite all of the circumstances she is placed in. Her small shows of emotion are an interesting contrast to her mostly stoic demeanor, and I appreciated the glimpse into deeper into her personality. We don't see much of Kai in this book, and that was a bit sad, and I hope he plays a larger part in the next book.

The world of the Invisible Library series continues to grow and fascinate. The fae chaos versus the dragon order in the various worlds, with the Library a neutral actor in between them both is an interesting set-up, and we get to learn more about it in THE MASKED CITY, especially about some specific dragons and fae.

All in all, I definitely recommend THE MASKED CITY. While I would say you could probably read it without reading THE INVISIBLE LIBRARY, I also loved THE INVISIBLE LIBRARY and recommend that one as well, so give them both a try!
