About the Author
Adrienne von Speyr (1902-1967) was a Swiss medical doctor, convert to Catholicism, a mystic, wife and author of over 60 books on spirituality and theology. She collaborated closely with the renowned theologian Hans Urs Von Balthasar, her confessor for 27 years, and they co-founded the Community of Saint John. Her numerous writings, published by Ignatius Press, are recognized by leading theologians and writers as a major contribution to the mystical and spiritual writings of the Church. Among her most important works are Book of All Saints, Confession, The World of Prayer, Handmaid of the Lord, and The Passion from Within.

Brian McNeil is a native of the United Kingdom who now lives in Germany. He also translated Klauck's The Religious Context of Early Christianity.

Excellent - this is like a book of the Bible all about Elijah. It puts together all of his works and life as a prophet, to present the Prophet as a single point of reading. Very well done and very readable to help everyone understand the place of Elijah in the OT. Great book for anyone who might have interest in the story of Elijah.

Great read. This book has great information on investing in real estate that most investors are unaware of. A must read for those looking for alternatives to the stock market or flipping houses. I highly recommend reading this!

Well, I should have read page 86 first "not a source of legal, regulatory, compliance, or accounting information" because my initial reaction to the book was disappointment. It is a short read, but if you want to find the answer to a specific question, you may have to search. For example, if you want to know what the author thinks is a good loan to value ratio (if the LP borrows too much it may not have enough cash flow to weather a downturn to pay the bank, and by the way, the author's suggestion is appropriately conservative so you may have trouble finding LPs that use that ratio), you can find it on page 32, but there is no index. If you are an experienced investor (and therefore don't need the book ) you will guess that it is in a chapter titled "Postive Leverage and Low Risk Financing". Otherwise, you may not know where to look or even if too look. On the plus side, chapter 12, "Where to Find a Good Partnership to Invest In" offer reasonable advice to a new investor and perhaps the book is worth its modest price for that chapter.

I am looking for practical and detailed information on investing in real estate LPs such as how to evaluate the properties, how to read and understand the LP agreements, what to look for in an LP agreement such as traps that benefit the general partner at the expense of the limited partner, a significant discussion on the obligation or not to distribute to cover taxes, how to analyze the proforma such as understand real estate accounting, cash flow, ROI, etc. Who, based on ones tax situation, best benefits from investing in LPs? What happens if NOI goes negative? What is a good CAP ratio; what are good ratios in general? What is a good strategy for choosing a property, fix up and increase rent? What demographics does one look for in the community? Location? Property taxes, cost of utilities? Who will manage the property, the GPs or will they outsource and if so to which company? Who will maintain the property? What degree of liability insurance will the partnership carry to protect the equity from unfortunate events? How do you know if the deal is too expensive or reasonably priced? How much equity should partners contribute relative to the bank loan? How much equity should the general partners contribute? If they don't have skin in the game should you? What loan rate, say relative to prime, is acceptable, etc? In other words, how does one know if the bank thinks it is risky? How does an limited partner evaluate their risk? In short, how does an investor make an informed decision? If the deal goes belly up, what can you expect? What should you do, and will you see a dime of your money? I didn't find enough of the answers or advice I seek, but having learned that the book is "not a source of legal, regulatory, compliance, or accounting information" and because I am not clairvoyant, that should be no surprise. I wish I could suggest a better alternative.

When the British begin dropping clothing coupons on Germany, Schulz comes up with a retaliatory scheme for swamping Britain with forged five pound notes. When against all odds Adolf Hitler himself approves the scheme, Private Schulz finds himself being parachuted into England to bury a canister of fivers in the Kent countryside. Schulz just needs a personal plan to get out of the war alive - with a few leftover notes.

If you laughed at the frustrated, unfortunate Private Schulz in the recent BBC television series, then you will love the book version. The novel is able to go into more detail than the TV original, both in characterisation and plot. The result is a finely drawn and hilarious tale of the SS plan to flood wartime Britain with forged �5 notes - with Schulz as the unwitting and unwilling private using the scheme to make some dishonest money for himself. If you liked the series, you'll probably love the book. Jack Pulman never lived to see his creation on screen, and the script was novelised expertly by Martin Noble. Set in the Second World War, the events cover the clever but hapless Schulz's attempts to get hold of some of the money his SS bosses have literally been making from a wartime opportunity: the forged English five pound notes of Operation Bernhardt, designed to disrupt the British economy just when it needs to work. The novel goes beyond the limits of the series, and fills in all the characters further, and introduces new ones, who all stand in Schulz's way at various times, or help him in any way they can.

Schulz's story is a tale of the powerlessness of the individual in the face both of totalitarian regimes and incredible bad luck. Schulz, his frightful boss Major Neuheim and his opportunistic collaborator Bertha all find out in their own ways that the ill-gotten gains that come to them have been created out of evil, and that no good will come of them, which turns it into a modern Midas Touch, in some respects, and an examination of the unforgiving ways of greed, and its dubious rewards.

GREETINGS & SALUTATIONS! The book was faithfully included on the screen as a series on Public Broadcasting and the actors selected where faithful in the depiction of the characters in the book, believe it or not? I'd like to get the series on DVD if they had them where they'd play in this region, there are five regions and they cannot be played in the other regions due to electrical output being different in the U.K. and the U.S.A.! Best to enjoy the book in the meantime so when you get to see the film, you'll enjoy both venues!

About the Author
William B. Cash received his Ph.D. from Purdue University in 1972. He is currently an Associate Professor of Communication at National-Louis University in Evanston, Illinois.

Charles J. Stewart is the former Margaret Church Distinguished Professor of Communication at Purdue University where he taught from 1961 to 2009. He taught undergraduate courses in interviewing and persuasion and graduate courses in such areas as persuasion and social movements, apologetic rhetoric, and extremist rhetoric on the Internet. He received the Charles B. Murphy Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching from Purdue University and the Donald H. Ecroyd Award for outstanding Teaching in Higher Education from the National Communication Association. He has written articles, chapters, and books on interviewing, persuasion, and social movements. He has been a consultant with organizations such as the Internal Revenue Service, the American Electric Power Company, Libby Foods, the Indiana University School of Dentistry, and the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters. He is currently a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children (CASA).

This book is required reading for me this semester. This is ONE OF THE BEST textbooks I have ever been assigned to read! All the vocabulary terms are either in bold or italicized text; concise explanations are given of key concepts; etc.

This is one text that is NOT a chore to read. :-) And it's interesting too!!

If I could have given this book zero stars, I would have. Listen, the only reason I am reading this book is because the school is using it as material to teach the class. This book has some good information. I'm not saying the whole book is bad or worthless. I am just saying that if I were to judge this book solely on its ability to organize content, I would have to say that it is downright terrible. This book literally "spliced" together phrases from over 100 other sources. Totally insignificant phrases are quoted from other sources just for the sake of quoting them.

Another problem is that they take information and refine it down to such a granular extent that it is truly torture to read it. Let me give you an analogy as to what I am saying. Say you want to eat a cookie. Sounds good right? Take that delicious cookie and crumble it up until it is nothing but a pile of crumbs. Then lick your finger and touch the crumbs. Now eat those crumbs. Not very satisfying, but not too terrible. Now do that for the whole cookie. I dare you to do that to a cookie and get through the whole thing without throwing out a handful of crumbs.

Then another problem is they fill the book with statements that either make no sense or are so commonplace that it is just a waste of time to read them. I'll give you one example straight out of the book. Chapter 12 page 378 under the heading Encourage Interaction says "Listen with comprehension so that you understand what the patient is saying and implying." Seriously. I am paying for an author to tell me to listen with comprehension so that I can understand them. The book is filled with these little "gems" of information.

I could go on and on, but I think you get the point. Most people who buy this book are doing so because they have to (i.e., required reading for a class). There is nothing I can do about that since the school determines the reading material for a class. However, if there is anyone out there who is thinking about buying this book to improve their "interviewing" skills, either search for another book... or be prepared to eat that cookie one crumb at a time.
