Organic Functionalism

Weston appears to do a very fine job presenting us with the various perspectives of the Villa -- the large living room, entryways, linear wood use, and of course the extraordinary pool and sauna. The integration of text with pictures makes the book accessible to students just beginning to embark on a study of this great Finnish architect.

Remember the Phaidon Press among all Publishers!

Villa Mairea is a very specific home building in Finland. It could be described as an outstanding but descent statue of the golden National Romantic Era, when Alvar Aalto (much alike Frank Lloyd, e.g. in his Fallingwaterhouse) was relatively free hands to plan a house in the "best spirit" of the time.

The house was possessed and occupied by the descendants of the relatively large Ahlstr�m family, which is famous for various industrial activities in Finland. Few people (150 000?) had opportunity to visit the place when it was open for publicity from time to time several years ago, but as a surrogate for such an experience this books gives an excellent overview. The pictures and drawings of the home and its environment are very clear and professionally prepared, and what is most important, the proportionally short introduction to the cultural milieu or atmosphere of the time is covering enough for readers, who have been interested in architecture, but have not yet acknowledged the greatness of Alvar Aalto.

I am so blessed to have finally been exposed to these wonderful spiritual revelations at such an advanced age

I've been immersed in Andrew Farley's various writings on a daily basis for at least the past 18 months. His grace-focused and scripturally validated teachings never fail to inspire and reassure me; and Relaxing with God is no exception. I am so blessed to have finally been exposed to these wonderful spiritual revelations at such an advanced age. Indeed, I have purchased copies of each of his books for distribution to family and friends-----his publications are just too spiritually "rich" to keep to myself. The teaching of God's grace at its very best. Thanks Andrew.

This book describes perfectly my own journey with Christ

This book is an excellent summary of where I've been in my own 40 year walk that started at age 27. I spent early morning time in the Word and felt so close to God then went to church or men's events and came home feeling worthless, beaten, discouraged, and that God wanted nothing to do with me until I was really "sold out" to a greater degree.

Finally I began to realize what I was hearing in the evangelical denomination I am a part of (it's a really big denomination that I still love with "Southern" in the name) just wasn't the relationship with Christ I read about in the scripture. This book is a well written account of what I've come to believe over the last ten years or so. God isn't at all irritated with me because I'm human.

I feel so free and joyous in my relationship with Christ now that I want to share that with everyone. I've been a deacon in my denomination for about 30 years. I put a lot of men in shackles who came to me for council many years ago. God forgive me. I am ordering copies of this book to help some of them understand where my walk has brought me.

Very good summary of the so called hyper-grace teachings. There might be some debatable views in this book, but overall it is a really god job. As usual Dr Farley uses examples from everyday life to make his point and support scriptural truths. This book is completly based on the gospel that is God's power that delivers. If you are inclining to the gospel of the grace of Jesus Christ this book will just strengthen you. If you are unsure of what the truth is, this book serves with clear evidence to the gospel of grace, just put those debatable things on a shelf and keep reading on. Maybe later you can come back to those and think about it.

Ancient Wisdom for Modern Readers

I've been a huge fan of Paulo Coelho since The Alchemist. All of his books and novels teach us about wisdom, life and love. This latest book is not really a novel in the traditional sense. Manuscript Found in Accra is actually in the realm of wisdom literature, a compendium of brief discourses in the spirit and style of Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet.

The setting is Jerusalem in 1099 AD. A diverse crowd of people has gathered in dreaded anticipation of the destruction of their city by an army of advancing Crusaders. A mysterious man known only as The Copt arises and begins to speak to them. What follows is a night of questions and answers through which The Copt pours forth ancient wisdom to the anxious listeners.

There is no new revelation in these pages, but rather a re-telling of the old ways of wisdom and light through the mouth of The Copt. Coelho freely evokes Kahlil Gibran. Consider The Copt's words, "Work is the manifestation of Love that binds people together." Compare that to Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet, who says, " Work is love made visible. ... when you work with love you bind yourself to yourself, and to one another, and to God." Coelho also repeatedly puts the exact words of Jesus Christ into the mouth of The Copt without mentioning the original source of those words. Nevertheless, in spite of the lack of originality, Coelho's writing style is engaging, interesting and intriguing. The wisdom contained between these covers is essential to the well being of our souls. Some chapters will speak with more clarity and urgency than others, depending upon the needs and interests of the reader, but as a whole, Manuscript Found in Accra will have something to benefit every reader.

Transformational Wisdom

A wise man sits in a square taking questions about life on the eve of his town's massacre by an invading army. His wisdom, delivered in simple yet profound sentences, can alter the course of your life. A must-read for anyone interested in living a courageous, loving, meaningful life. My favorite quotes:

16. In the cycle of nature there is no such thing as victory or defeat; there is only movement ... there are neither winners nor losers; there are only stages that must be gone through. When the human heart understands this, it is free and able to accept difficult times without being deceived by moments of glory.

23. Defeat ends when we launch into another battle. Failure has no end; it is a lifetime choice.

30. The act of discovering who we are will force us to accept that we can go further than we think.

31. .. saying no does not always show a lack of generosity, and that saying yes is not always a virtue.

40. Ask a flower in the field: "Do you feel useful? After all you do nothing but produce the same flowers over and over." And the flower will answer: "I am beautiful, and beauty is my reason fro living." Ask the river: "Do you feel useful, given that all you do is keep flowing in the same direction?" And the river will answer: "I'm not trying to be useful; I'm trying to be a river." Nothing in this world is useless in the eyes of God.

41. Don't try to be useful. Try to be yourself; that is enough, and that makes all the difference.

42. Do one thing: Live the life you always wanted to live. Avoid criticizing others and concentrate on fulfilling your dreams.

48. Dreaming carries no risks. The dangerous thing is trying to transform your dreams into reality.

BEWARE!

This book only has about 214 pages as opposed to the 504 pages listed in the description. Moreover, this book is fundamentally a basic sewing guide with very little actual reference to industry techniques. It fails to demonstrate any legitimate difference in the construction techniques for various market levels and it fails to provide anything new that one couldn't find in any basic home sewing book.

Falsely advertised and over-priced; not advanced enough for an experienced sewer, and too expensive and underwhelming for a beginner.

Don't waste your money.
